Take a look at this, as you might be able to beat some kilobytes out of your PNGs using it.
PNGGauntlet requires .NET Framework 2.0 -- although you might be able to use PNGOUT by itself.. Which doesn't require it. (I think)

it uses PNGOut Plugin.
Which is also used in IrfanView if you have the plugins installed.

Oh, and I'll give a little tip;

You can add a bit extra depth into your texture/sprite by making a normal map of it in a cloned layer and overlay the original texture/sprite with it.

  • Open your texture/sprite.
  • Duplicate/clone layer.
  • Run a normal map filter .. Don't forget to experiment with the settings. (You'd be insane if you tried making one by yourself. Drunk )
  • Desaturate the normal map.
  • Set the layer blending style to "Overlay" ...
  • Adjust the brightness and contrast..
  • Play with the layer opacity to fit your liking.
  • Try restarting a few times if you're not satisfied with the result.

    And don't forget to "play" with the settings of the Normal Map filter. :P

Terragen 2 - And the skyboxes. (Not sure if it really works, though. :l)

And so we render the skyboxes! (Yes, this is a link.)

Edit: Didn't work for me.. As it doesn't say how to "remove" the lighting seams.
